This vehicle was not only an accomplishment, but also served as a great platform to test and develop new ideas. Many hours were spent in Auto CAD designing and redesigning functional components. The chassis itself came from Brandon at Sky's Extreme Off road. Our customer liked the aesthetic appeal of the profile and also had a good relationship with the team over there. There is a challenge behind designing a vehicle around someone else's concept. However, when a customer requests a vehicle similar to a shop competitor it has and always will be our policy not to "Knock off" the original. Expanding on it is a different story. After careful planning we found that to take the stress of the IFS front end (and the specific driver behind the wheel) we would begin by taking out about 60% of the original chassis and replacing it with steel that would turn the design into strength.
So much of this car was one off of what we would normally consider rock crawling logic. Initially the car took some time to work out bugs. Since then it has become not only an extremely capable crawler, it has also been a fun buggy to watch do things that a normal rock crawler simple can't. Or more appropriately, shouldn't.. But that just might be the guy behind the wheel.
